Lincolnshire's Community Club of the Year 2007
The Barge & Bottle Netball Club was formed in June 2002 by twelve adult members. The Barge & Bottle pub provided sweatshirts and t-shirts in addition to some funding, which enabled the club to get started. The Junior section of the Club was formed later in 2002 and consisted of two ages groups – under 12’s and under 14’s.
By August 2003 the Club had over forty members and were successful in obtaining an Awards for All grant of £4400 to help the club continue to develop. In February 2004 the Club obtained its Bronze CAPS Clubmark Accreditation, which is a quality assurance endorsement from All England Netball and Sport England.
Claire Annall, the Head Coach at the Club, was the winner of the ‘Sleaford Sports Award’ in the Annual Sleaford Awards in early 2006. This award was in recognition of Claire’s hard work and dedication at the Club. In 2007 Claire was the East Midlands winner of the England Netball Muriel McNally award for services to Netball at Grass Roots Level.
July 2006 saw the further expansion of the Barge & Bottle Netball Club as it opened its doors to even younger members of the community with the lower age limit being dropped from eight to six.
The continued hard work and commitment of the Club’s coaches, committee and members has seen the Barge and Bottle Netball Club go from strength to strength. The Club continues to build on its achievements and were awarded Silver Accreditation in June 2007.
In November 2007 the Club was awarded the ‘Community Club of the Year’ by the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership.
In March 2008 the Club obtained a second Award for All grant, in order to deliver Hi Five Netball within the Sleaford Area.
To date the Club has over 140 Members
